KOCHI: In a cheating case, a person claiming to be a Sub Inspector with the cyber police, raided an electrical company in Kaloor and demanded money from the owners and staff. The person was thereafter traced by the police and taken into custody on Tuesday.According to Rakesh Kumar, the director of the company, the person introduced himself as Sub Inspector Prakash after arriving at the company office on January 6. “He told us that the company is working without any proper license and strict action would be taken against all the company employees. Later he started to question me regarding my family matters. I felt suspicious and demanded him to show us his identity card. He however refused and gave his mobile phone number before quickly leaving the premises,” Kumar said.The company staff later filed a complaint with the police. The said person was later traced by the cyber police from the given mobile number.Upon investigation, it was found that the actual name of the person was Rajesh, and that he was a native of Thiruvananthapuram.According to police officials, the person was a close friend of Rakesh Kumar’s wife and intended to threaten Rakesh into divorcing his wife besides demanding a ransom from him.The police have filed a case against the accused person and he was produced before the court on Tuesday. He has been since remanded in judicial custody.
