CHENNAI: The Indian Coast Guard detained 24 Sri Lankan fishermen onboard five trawlers at 150 nautical miles off Paradip in Odisha coast in the last few days.According to the Coast Guard, its vessel Sarang detained 13 fishermen on three boats, and another of its ship Vajra stopped 11 Sri Lankans on two boats.The fishermen were intercepted and detained for illegal fishing. About 3250 kg of fish were also seized from the five boats. The fishermen, all Sinhalese, belong to the southwest of Sri Lanka. Their boats were fitted with GPS, radar and long-range communication equipment, which posed a security risk, according to the Indian Coast Guard. Since January this year, the Indian Coast Guard detained 124 fishermen, seized 25 boats and about 27,759 kg of fish in the eastern region.
