Mumbai: After Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad slammed e-commerce giant Flipkart for deferring the recruitment of its graduates by six months, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are reported to be contemplating action against the company.
The IITs are likely to strip Flipkart of its 'Day One' status in their campus placement programmes after the company deferred the joining dates of their graduates too by six months.
They are planning to write to Flipkart to reduce the deferment period or increase compensation.
"We will tell them the alternate steps they can take or work on the compensation that they are offering. They should decrease the deferred joining period. The excuse given by them is restructuring which is on internally, for which they will take some to come back and offer the new joining dates. Let's see what the response is. If the response is positive, there won’t be much to do from our side but if the response is negative then we will talk about it at the inter-IIT level," said an IIT-B student.
Another recruit added that Flipkart will find it difficult to come to the IITT campus for placement. "In future, if this is the condition that is happening right now they will not get the premium slot which they have been getting for the past three years," he said.
His views were supported by another student. "It will directly affect the relationship and most probably they will not be coming to the campus next year and other e-commerce websites may be getting a better slot compared to Flipkart," he added.
Placement cell heads of all IITs are set to meet in a couple of days to take the final call.
