New Delhi: 2013 has seen a mixed bag of films comprising both popular and art house cinema. It was the year when viewers accepted women in more meaty roles in films and rejected those who were used as props in the films.
And the winner of the IBN Live Movie Award for Best Actress is -- Deepika Padukone for the film 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela'.
2013 was clearly Padukone's year. She had four releases and all of them were super hits. Padukone's performance in each film ('Race2', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Chennai Express' and 'Ram Leela') was varied from the other yet extremely convincing. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ram Leela' had Padukone playing feisty Gujarati girl who isn't afraid to run away with the enemy all for love.
Padukone was pitted against Nimrat Kaur (for 'The Lunchbox'), Adia Al-Khashef (for 'Ship Of Theseus'), Sonakshi Sinha (for 'Lootera') and Konkona Sen (for 'Ek Thi Dayan').
Nimrat Kaur performed splendidly as the quiet, restrained housewife in 'The Lunchbox'. She got over 14 per cent votes.
Al-Khashef, who portrayed the role of the blind photographer who's struggling to come to terms with her new eyes, got 2 per cent of the votes. Sinha and Sen-Sharma got 12 and 4 per cent votes respectively.####
