HYDERABAD: The Osmania University campus was on boil again on Friday as students organised protests and meetings targeting Congress and its president Sonia Gandhi, on a day when the Centre had given an assurance on Telangana and later backed out. "Congress ko khatam karo, Telangana ko haasil karo" was the slogan at the protest hunger strike by OUJAC students while other groups of the JAC organised a rasta roko and celebrated Sonia Gandhi's birthday in a unique way. The students brought a buffalo with Sonia Gandhi's posters on its neck and cut a cake before it. They later smeared the buffalo's face with cake.
According to OUJAC spokesperson P Kailash nearly 200 students, including women, sat on a hunger strike at the Arts College. Hundreds of other students joined the strike expressing solidarity to protesting students. The hunger strike was launched by TRS leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya. The leaders asked students to launch an united fight against the government for separate Telangana. CPI MLA G Mallesh, T Advocates JAC leader Rajender Reddy visited the camp. In the evening, the fast was called off by TJAC convener Prof Kodandaram. Student activists also staged a rasta roko for some time near the Arts College bus stop blocking traffic.
