Hockey WC: Pak finish last; team, selectors sacked
Pakistan finished last in the World Cup, their worst-ever WC performance.

New Delhi: Pakistan Hockey Federation President Qasim Zia sacked the national hockey management and the selection committee after Pakistan finished last in the ongoing Hockey World Cup here on Thursday.

This is Pakistan's worst-ever performance in a World Cup as they ended their campaign in a 2-3 loss to Canada.

Both teams scored a goal each by the 12th minute itself. That's how the game stayed till Pakistan took the lead in the 46th minute with a beautiful goal by Akhtar Ali, volleying the ball into the net.

Canada equalised in the 58th minute Mark Pearson scored the goal off a cross that got deflected by a Pakistan defender. Canada closed the match in extra time with the golden goal in the 83rd minute as Scott Tupper clinched the 11th spot for Canada.
