BANGALORE: Residents of Hebbal hope to get a proper water supply connection once BWSSB completes the construction of the nine million litre capacity water tank in Hebbal's Coffee Board Layout. Water supply is yet to reach the residents of Hebbal’s Coffee Board Layout. Residents so far have been depending on groundwater through borewells or have resorted to using private water tankers. The ongoing construction of a nine million litre capacity water tank in this area aims to supply water to close to 5000 homes. This will be the locality’s only water supply facility by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). While private water tankers have been helpful during the summer, they have also proven to be a little expensive. The per load supply rate of these tankers ranges from `160 to `350. And one load usually lasts for a period of one week to fifteen days depending on the usage.“Apart from private water tankers, we rely on the City Municipal Corporation for water. But that is also quite irregular,” says Anthony, a resident of the area. Dr Harini, another resient added that some houses have a Panchayati connection that supplies water once or twice a week. With private water tankers, one load lasts four days. This ground reservoir project will help ease the situation but some residents feel that BWSSB is finding it difficult to source water for the reservoir. The project began in November 2009 and is yet to be completed. A BWSSB source confirms that the construction of the reservoir is more or less complete and that BWSSB is waiting to source water and fill up the reservoir. But he also said that there might be a problem in finding a source line in the nearby area. If the Water Board is unsuccessful in finding a source line, then they might have to adopt other means like rain water harvesting. Another official from the BBMP said that Cauvery water will be sourced to fill up the reservoir. He also added that the pipeline running from GKVK to Nagavara has been identified as a potential source and will be used to fill up the tank. This will be the second largest ground level reservoir after the reservoir at GKVK which has a 24 million litre capacity.
