New Delhi: London's Heathrow Airport was evacuated on Tuesday after a suspicious package was found, according to reports coming in from London.

According to PTI, Terminal 4 at the airport was evacuated over a suspect package. "The tannoy told everyone to evacuate the terminal. They said a suspect package was found," Reuters quoted a passenger as saying.

Officials at the airport could not confirm that the terminal was evacuated, but said a suspect bag had been found. "In response to a suspect bag in Terminal 4, secondary searches are now being carried out on departing passengers," BAA, which manages the airport, said in a statement.

"Contingency plans were also activated," it said. "We are working with the police to bring a swift resolution to the incident."

This is the second time in three days that such an evacuation has taken place at the airport. Earlier on Sunday, the authorities had evacuated part of the airport while police investigated a suspect package.

The suspect bag was in the departures section of Terminal 3 which handles long-haul flights from the airport. British police are on high alert after a fuel-loaded jeep was rammed into Glasgow airport on last Saturday.
