CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered maintenance of status-quo in the matter of recruitment of candidates through campus interviews by Public Sector Undertakings, including Indian Space Research Organisation and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. The first bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam granted the injunction while passing interim orders on a public interest writ petition from advocate M Palanimuthu of Saidapet.“The mute question that falls for consideration is as to whether the procedure followed for campus interviews by the PSUs like that of private institutions is justified inasmuch as there are chances of good candidates being discriminated against. The candidates registered in employment exchanges, might also not get a chance,’’ the bench observed. The bench granted two weeks’ time to the authorities concerned to file counter affidavits. In the meantime, status-quo with regard to campus selection should be maintained by the respondents, the bench said. The other PSUs named in the petition are oil giants Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
