Jind: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been actively campaigning and holding mega rallies in Haryana in the run up to the Assembly elections, reached the INLD bastion Jind on Saturday where he tried to make holes in the Chautalas' boat.
Taking on the jailed INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala, Modi said, "You have made the entire Haryana blind with your broken ainak (glasses)." How long will you continue like this, he asked.
Chautala is the sitting MLA of Uchana Kalan, one of the five Assembly constituencies of Jind where INLD ruled the roost in 2009 elections. But he would not be contesting elections this time around following his conviction in the 1999-2000 JBT scam.
However, the INLD does not plan to lose Jind despite its chief in jail and has hence para dropped his grandson and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala to contest from the seat.
Taking on the Chautalas, Modi called for an end to dynasty politics in the state. He indicated that the ruling Congress and the Opposition INLD were hands in glove in corruption. "Although they treat each other like enemies in front of others, they actually shake hands in the dark. One party rules for five years, loots you and then passes on the batton to the other party," he said.
Modi cashed in on the anti-Congress sentiment as he said, "Jind lagged behind in the pace of development due to petty politics of the parties which have been in power in the state. Those who won from here never cared for the welfare of the local population. To humiliate, each-other, Congress leaders thwarted development of Jind. It is my request to vote BJP to power for five years, I assure you to bring a sea of change in your life by the means of development."
Quoting opinion polls which have projected BJP as the largest party post elections, Modi said, "Ye Haryana ke jeet ki, Jind ki hawa hai (This is Haryana's win. There is a wave in Jind)."
By holding his rally at the Pandu Pindara village in Jind, Modi set tongues wagging as the 79-year-old Chautala had addressed his first election rally since coming out of jail at the same ground. Although Modi managed to attract thousands, it nowhere matched the show of strength by Chautala. While the crowd was around 10,000 strong at Modi's rally, according to INLD workers the numbers at Chautala's rally went up to 35,000.
