Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday allocated Rs 7.54 crore as the State government’s grant for establishing the Arignar Anna Handloom Silk Park in Kancheepuram district under the Integrated Textile Park Project (ITPP). The grant works up to nine per cent of the total project cost of `83.83 crore to set up the park in 75 acres at Keezhkathirpur village in Kancheepuram district.
Since the cost of land is Rs 13.77 crore, the government has deducted its grant of Rs 7.54 crore and provided the rest Rs 6.23 crore as non-guaranteed government loan — that can be repaid in five years, an official release here said. The State government will provide basic amenities like road, water and drainage besides effluent treatment plant for the dyeing unit.
The CM has also ordered starting two training centres for weavers at Kanchipuram and Kumbakonam areas which are dominated by weavers. These training centres to be set up each at a cost of Rs 46.90 lakh, are aimed at creating awareness that weaving need not be a community-based profession.
These training centres would be started in the places owned by the dissolved handloom and powerloom weavers cooperative societies and training on weaving, dyeing, designing, processing etc., will be given in these centres.
