New Delhi: The British authorities have failed to trace the 'Kalgi' and other belongings of Guru Gobind Singh, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
"The matter was taken up with the British authorities, who indicated that the articles could not be traced."
"They also indicated that an extensive search had been conducted in 1976 to locate the 'Kalgi' by the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK where it was earlier kept," Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said in a written reply.
The search was futile, the minister added.
The Indian government had received requests for assistance in locating the 'Kalgi' and some other articles of Guru Gobind Singh and bringing them back to India, Sharma said.
The minister also informed that a proposal for issue of commemorative postage stamp on Guru Arjun Dev had been received by the Department of Posts and is under consideration.
The proposal for issue of a commemorative stamp on the fifth Guru of the Sikhs had been examined, and the same would be placed before the Philatelic Advisory Committee for consideration at its next meeting, Sharma added.
