Grey's... star says he was fired for being black

New York: Actor Isaiah Washington says he was fired from the popular US television show Grey's Anatomy because he is a black man.

Washington had made an offensive comment about another cast member T R Knight last October and had repeated it at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, hollywood.com reported.

Newsweek quoted him as saying: "I apologised and showed my remorse for what I said and for the pain I caused."

"If a black man can't get forgiveness in this country, when so many other people like Robert Downey Jr and the governor of California get second and third chances... I think that says a lot about race and this country, where we stand."
