THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Orders for a total of 1086 kg of chicken and 196 kg of turkey were placed on the first day of Meat Products of India (MPI) rolling out an SMS facility ahead of New Year celebrations. In all 212 SMS-es landed on the telephone number 9446226600. Animal Husbandry Minister K P Mohanan also directed MPI to offer five percent discount for orders placed via the SMS facility, MPI managing director Ani S Das said. The SMS facility was announced on Monday for placing orders with the MPI depot at Jagathy and the Xmas-New Year Bazaar at Putharikandam. Chicken sales during Christmas had broken records prompting MPI to launch the facility.
