Gogoi presses for Games 'on time'
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday reiterated that the National Games will take place as per schedule.

New Delhi: Despite frequent attacks in the state playing host to the 33rd National Games in the country, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday reiterated that the Games will take place as per schedule.

"I want to say that the Nationl Games will take place in Guwahati from February 9 to 18 as per schedule featuring 32 events, the highest to be held in any National Games. People should ignore comments from a section, guided by ULFA, which is raising questions about safety of the event," Gogoi said in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The Peoples' Consultative Group (PCG) had raised their eyebrows about security following a spate of killings in the region by the ULFA.

"We have beefed up security. Twenty companies of para-military forces have been deployed for the games and one IGP has been assigned only to oversee security during the Games," he added.

Gogoi also said all the participant Olympic associations have given their consent and filed their entry for the National Games.

"Our equipment have arrived and only few of them which has already reached the country will arrive by this month-end". he said.
