New Delhi: Goa has already started preparing for the 36th International Film Festival of India, (IFFI) 2005, to begin in November.
This year IFFI will feature seven sections including the Asian, African and Latin American competition sections, Cinema of the World, Indian and Foreign Retrospectives, Indian Panorama and Mainstream Indian cinema.
Over 200 screenings spread over a period of 10 days are scheduled. These include films that have won international awards or have earned critical acclaim.
The films will be screened in front of a five-member jury comprising of award winning director Miguel Littin (Chile) Chairperson, Alain Corneau (France), Saeed Akhtar Mirza (India), Faramarz Gharibian (Iran) and Sabine Derflinger (Austria).
The best film will be awarded the Golden Peacock Award and a cash prize of Rs 10,00,000 while the most promising director will be honoured with the Silver Peacock Award and a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000
Entertainment Society of Goa CEO Mr Sanjit Rodrigues said the festival would feature a retrospective of acclaimed Indian film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his narrative style of filmmaking.
Homage will also be paid to two of Indian Cinema?s greatest actors, who died last year, Sunil Dutt and Gemini Ganeshan by screening their films Reshma Aur Sheraand Parthiban Kanavu.
Along with the film festival, a film bazaar will be organised within the precincts of the main festival venue at Kala Academy.
This bazaar will aim at promoting Indian shooting locales, marketing Indian Films abroad, promoting India as a post-production hub and enable networking opportunities.
