Darjeeling: Darjeeling is headed for a series of bandhs called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, beginning with a four-day shut down from January 12, on its renewed demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland to be carved out of West Bengal.
Announcing the decision of the GJM central committee which was called to take stock of the situation after the Srikrishna Committee report on Telengana was made public, party general secretary Roshan Giri told reporters on Friday that the first bandh would be from January 12 to 15.
This would be followed by a second bandh from January 19 to 25 and a third from January 29 to February 12, Giri said.
From February 16, GJM president Bimal Gurung and other senior leaders would begin an indefinite fast in support of the Gorkhaland demand, he said.
