Speculation grows that ex-army chief faces arrest.
Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has alleged that Gen. Sarath Fonseka, the defeated Presidential candidate, was plotting to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Sri Lanka defence ministry officials alleged at a press conference that Fonseka was planning to kill the entire Rajapaksa family and they had evidence to prove that the retired army chief had plotted to kill the President.
Rajapaksa swept to a second term in office on Wednesday, but Fonseka has vowed to challenge the results and alleges he was held a virtual prisoner in a tony hotel surrounded by hundreds of soldiers.
