First Uri, Then Nagrota and Now Kupwara: Army Under Attack
Here’s a look at the recent attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir:

New Delhi: At least three soldiers, including an officer, were killed on Thursday when militants stormed an army camp in Kupwara area of Jammu and Kashmir. Two terrorists were killed in the attack which bore a resemblance to the Uri attack in which 10 soldiers were killed when an army camp was targeted in September last year.

Here’s a look at the recent attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir:

Pathankot – January, 2016

In a pre-dawn attack, a group of heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists attacked the Air Force base in Pathankot, Punjab on January 2. Six terrorists, believed to owe allegiance to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, were gunned down by the security forces after a four-day gun battle. Seven Indian security personnel also lost their lives.

Pampore – June, 2016

On June 25, 2016, eight CRPF personnel were killed and 21 critically wounded when terrorists rained bullets on a bus ferrying them at Pampore area of J&K. The fidayeen attack carried out by the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Uri – September, 2016

In the worst attack on the Army in many years, heavily armed militants, suspected to be from Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad, stormed an Army base in Uri in Kashmir, killing 19 jawans. After a three-hour gunbattle, four terrorists were killed. India retaliated 10 days later with surgical strikes across the Line of Control dismantling terror infrastructure.

Baramulla – October, 2016

On the midnight of October 3, 2016, terrorists carried out a fidayeen attack on an Army camp on the outskirts of Baramulla town, less than a week after the surgical strikes. While the two attackers were killed by the army, one officer of the BSF attained martyrdom while several security personnel were injured. The attackers were Pakistani nationals belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Kupwara – October, 2016

Some militants on October 6, 2016, attacked an army camp at Langate in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, which was retaliated by the jawans. The three militants involved were killed.

Shopian - October, 2016

On October 8, 2016, a policeman was killed, while another constable and a civilian were injured when some terrorists fired at a security post guarding minority community in Shopian district of Kashmir.

Nagrota - November, 2016

On November 29, 2016, militants opened heavy fire at an army camp in Nagrota area of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving two jawans dead and two critically injured. In a separate infiltration bid in Samba district, three terrorists were gunned down along Indian Border.
