New Delhi: Facebook ventured into the Internet Q&A arena with a new service called Facebook Questions. The product is still in beta and will be available to only a select number of Facebook users.
The world's largest social networking website seeks to tap into the collective knowledge of its 500 million users. The questions posted can be accompanied by a photo or a poll and it will be visible to anyone on the Internet.
For questions to only be visible to a select group of people, Facebook suggests the use of status updates. The questions can also be tagged for proper segmentation and search.
Facebook's application would give new competition to Yahoo! Answers and Ask.com. Google too had a Google Answers feature which was later retired.
Google may also be thinking of re-entering the Q&A segment. Earlier this year, Google had acquired Aardvark, a service that uses social networking contacts to provide answers.
