New Delhi: Google Body is a browser application that can map out the entire human body. The high-tech 3D application has been hailed as a breakthrough in the study of anatomy that could revolutionise people's understanding of the human body and even fast-track medical research.

The application lets one explore the human body in much the same way you can navigate the world on Google Earth, a virtual globe, map and geographical information programme.

Google Body Browser also ushers in the introduction of a new Internet technology called WebGL, that will allow complex 3D graphics to be used on normal web pages, without the need for specially adapted browser plug-ins like Flash or Java.

Google Body can be accessed on browsers that support WebGL at http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com

WebGL is expected to become standard in new versions of most Internet browsers.

Google Body is a part of Google Labs, a website that offered public access to experimental products, that the company announced it will be winding down.

Google said that many of the products and technology from Google Labs would be incorporated into some of the company's other products, which range from the world's No. 1 search engine to its popular Android smartphone operating system.

Google Labs functions as a central hub for the various projects created by Google employees, who are allowed to spend up to 20 per cent of their time working on side-projects. Google Labs products were available as prototypes that users could try out and provide feedback on, while Google made ongoing changes and adjustments.
