Mumbai: The two bureaucrats named in the Adarsh housing scam have refused to quit.
They have told the Maharashtra Chief Minsiter, Prithviraj Chauhan, that there is no evidence of wrong doing against them.
Ramanand Tiwari and Subash Lalla - both refused to quit even after being asked to do so.
Ramamand Tiwari is the chief information commissioner and Subahsh Lalla is the state human rights commissioner.
The two officers have claimed that since there is no direct evidence of any wrongdoing against them, chief minister cannot remove them from the constitutional positions they hold. The other problem faced by the chief minister is the non availability of a judge to head the probe.
The Adarsh scam probe followup is causing a standoff between the Maharashtra government and the officers named in the housing scam.
Sources close to the chief minister are confirming to CNN-IBN that two officers with alleged links in the Adarsh scam have refused after the government asked them to do so.
Chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan, it is learnt, could press for dismissal if they do not resign.
