BHUBANESWAR: Prabhakar Panda, 80, former additional secretary to Government of Orissa, has passed away here. Panda had met with an accident on July 11 evening (Bahuda Yatra day) while he had stepped out of his Sahid Nagar home. He suffered spinal injury and was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals. The end came at about 7.30 am on Sunday. A simple and amiable person, Panda is survived by his wife and five sons. Prasanna Panda, Senior AGM of The New Indian Express, Bhubaneswar, is his second son. A native of Brahmapur village of undivided Cuttack district, Panda received his education in Ravenshaw College before joining the Orissa Government. In the subsequent years, he served in various administrative departments such as Education, Health, Commerce and Transport before his retirement from the Tribal Welfare Department in 1989.A Jagannath devout, Panda was popular in his circle for being an endearing personality who always wore a smile. His last rites were conducted at Swargadwara in Puri. Panda has been deeply mourned.
