Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the Gulbarg Society massacre, is determined to continue her fight after a special court on Thursday convicted 24 people but acquitted 36 others in connection with the mass killing.
"Even after 14 years, I have not got justice. I will consult my lawyers and take further action," Zakia said.
A special SIT court in Ahmedabad convicted 24 of the 66 accused in the 2002 post-Godhra Gulbarg society massacre, which left 69 people. The 24 convicted include VHP leader Atul Vaidya while 36 others including sitting BJP corporator Bipin Patel have been acquitted. KG Erda, then police inspector of the area under which the Gulbarg Society is located, is also among those acquitted.
"It is unfortunate that those accused have been let off. I don't think complete justice has been delivered. We will approach a higher court," Zakia added.
"All should have been given punishment for what they did and what they did not. I know it all and as I have seen the massacre. I expected all to be convicted. How they killed people, how they made them homeless, I saw it myself," she asserted.
The court said that there is no evidence of criminal conspiracy in the case, while dropping section 120 B of the IPC. The quantum of sentence for those convicted in the case will be delivered on June 6.
