HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to grill a senior IAS officer in the next couple of days in connection with the Emaar scam.Top sources disclosed to Express that the IAS officer, while heading a key department, had reportedly given certain tax exemptions to the Emaar group, which has now come under the scanner of the CBI. The tax exemptions were allegedly given on the directions of the then chief minister, sources said. The CBI is understood to have collected all necessary files pertaining to tax exemptions given to the Emaar group.“The tax exemptions were given in total violation of rules. The bureaucrats appear to have blindly followed what their political bosses ordered them to do,” the sources said. In all likelihood, the CBI team may question the IAS officer either at his residence or at an undisclosed location. “He will be questioned as to why and on whose instructions were the tax exemptions given, which caused loss to the state exchequer,” they said. Sources further said that another senior IAS officer, BP Acharya, who has been named an accused in the Emaar case, is likely to be summoned by the investigating agency next week.
