The High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the election of KR Periakaruppan (DMK) from the Tirupathur Assembly constituency in the polls held in May 2011, for non-prosecution of the case.
S Santhanakrishnan, an unsuccessful independent candidate, moved the HC alleging that Periakaruppan had indulged in corrupt activities in his capacity as the then cabinet minister during the elections. Representing the DMK candidate, advocate K Muthuramalingam pointed out that the petitioner was not keen on pursuing his case. As neither the petitioner nor his counsel appeared in court on several occasions, Justice K Venkataraman dismissed the plea, on Thursday. ENS
