New Delhi In yet another case of attack on senior citizens in the capital, a 94-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence in Central Delhi on Friday.

Kaushalya Bhalla's body was found with her hands and legs tied in the kitchen of her Old Rajendra Nagar residence by the housemaid on Friday afternoon, police said.

There were no external injuries on the body and police believe that she was strangled to death and were awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death.

The deceased used to stay alone in her single-storey building, where she moved in eight days ago. One of her sons stay nearby, police added.

Investigators who reached the scene of crime found the house ransacked, raising suspicion that it could be handiwork of robbers.

"We found the house scattered. It may be a robbery attempt. Anyway, we are looking into all angles," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Neeraj Thakur said.

Kaushalya is survived by four sons and a daughter. Three of them - Prakash, Prithviraj and Saroj - are in the United States, while the remaining two Surender and Harish live in Delhi and Gurgaon.

Surender Bhalla is a consultant, while his brother Harish was a senior officer with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

Attack against senior citizens has been on a rise in the national capital, prompting the Delhi Police to initiate several measures, including servant identification programme and launching an interactive website for them.
