Draft bill of Food Security Act ready

THIRUVANATHAPURAM:  The draft Bill of the Food Security Act which will make access to food a constitutional right is ready, Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies (Independent charge)  K V Thomas said here on Saturday. He said that the Food Security Act would be implemented by 2012.He said that the Bill would be placed before the Empowered Group of Ministers for further discussions. “The draft Bill is ready and it would be placed before the EGoM for discussions which would subsequently go to the Cabinet and then be placed before  Parliament,”  K V Thomas told a press conference organised by the Kesari Memorial Journalists’ Trust here.He said that once the various schemes under the Act come into force,  the food subsidy of the Central Government would cross Rs 1 lakh crore from the present Rs 83,000 crore.
