KOCHI: It was a sort of a walk down memory lane for legendary Malayalam poet O N V Kurup at the Fine Arts Hall here on Tuesday. Walking along with Yesudas, who gave voice to many of his classic lyrics, O N V recalled his literary life. Going through an array of photographs of O N V which were on display at the Fine Arts Hall, the great poet could not help but wonder aloud, “it is my life; I could read my entire life through these pictures; these photographs are symbols of good old, valuable memories which cannot be separated from me.” The venue was an exhibition of a rare collection of photographs of O N V Kurup showcased as part of felicitating the Jnanpith award winner. ‘ONVku Snehapoorvam’ (To O N V with love) organised by MACTA. Yesudas inaugurated the exhibition, which travelled through the literary, political and art life of O N V. “There is a wrong belief among the public that one needs to consume liquor to become a good artist. In the case of O N V, he is addicted to poetry. His poems create an addiction in readers. If poems are his addiction, for me it is songs,” said K J Yesudas. “These photographs represent the good, old days. I am happy that MACTA is conducting such an exhibition. Each photograph is an experience,” O N V said. Later speaking at an interactive session, O N V recalled his earlier days. “You have given me glittering love. It is a platform for exchanging love and experience. All little complaints end up in love,” he said. “Behind every song there should be a literary culture,” he added.“Each song takes birth after the merger of poetic fantasy with music. I wish to pen a poem immediately before my death. Only that, I should have the health to do so at that time,” he shared a wish with his well-wishers.The session was led by actor Madhupal. A couple of Malayalam film personalities, including Harikumar, Kamal, John Paul, Navodaya Appachan, Madhu, K G George, T V Chandran and T Vasavan, shared their experiences.
