Mumbai: In a major step forward for the prosecution in the Mumbai gangrape case of a 23-year-old photojournalist, Mumbai Police sources say DNA samples of all the accuses has matched with the evidence from the crime scene. But one of the accused has been found to be minor, they say.
Sources say the brother of one of the accused approached Mumbai Police and handed over the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC) birth certificate which was verified with the municipal corporation and indicated that he is a minor.
The brother also produced school leaving certificate to buttress his claim. The accused has been sent to the juvenile home
Earlier, the Bombay High Court rejected the plea of accused Mohammed Qasim Hafiz Shaikh alias Qasim Bengali to be tried as minor. He admitted in the court that he is 20 years of age.
The five accused are Salim Ansari, Vijay Jadhav, Mohammed Qasim Hafiz Shaikh alias Qasim Bengali, Siraj Rehman Khan and the minor.
