DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi has criticised the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the protests against the anti-Islam film that have rendered the US Consulate shut for five days. He asked the government not to scapegoat officials for its mistakes.
Karunanidhi also criticised the police over reports that they had entered and damaged parts of a church in Idinthakarai, in the ongoing row over the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant Project. He said the government should have taken steps to talk to the aggrieved parties in both cases in an attempt to find a peaceful solution to the problems.
“If these events had happened when we were in power, Jayalalithaa would have issued a statement demanding imposition of Article 356,” said Karunanidhi.
