NAMAKKAL: A local DMK functionary was among three persons who were held on Tuesday as part of a crackdown on land grabbing.Police said that Deivam Ponnusamy (57) was arrested along with S Venkatesh for usurping land belonging to Chinnusamy.According to the officer, Venkatesh, his father Mani Subramani and sister Suseela allegedly got a fake certificate from the VAO. which falsely named them as Chinnusamy’s heirs.Later, they sold a 2.18 acre plot of land owned by the Ex-serviceman to Deivam Ponnusamy, a local DMK functionary, for ` five lakh.The District Crime Branch registered cases under sections 420 and 468 of the IPC on Ponnusamy, Venkatesh, his father Subramany and sister Suseela based on Chinnusamy’s complaint.Ponnusamy and Venkatesh were remanded to judicial custody. Similarly, the special team policemen arrested another land broker for selling government land worth `1.50 lakh.M Pandian of Thiruchengode was arrested for allegedly selling government land to Chinnaponnu A case was registered on realtor Shanmugasundaram, Pandian, Velusamy and Nalini.
