New Delhi: Demanding Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar's resignation over the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student inside a private bus on December 16 and the police crackdown on protesters demanding justice for the rape survivor at India Gate on Sunday, almost 150 youngsters took out a march from Nizamuddin to India Gate.
With prohibitory orders under Section 144 having been imposed in area around India Gate, the protesters were stopped by the police almost 2 km from the area at Zakir Hussain Marg. The protesters were shouting anti-Delhi Police slogans and demanding strict punishment for the six men, who have been arrested for allegedly raping and assaulting the student.
President Pranab Mukherjee's son and Congress MP from Jangipur in West Bengal Abhijit Mukherjee was also the target of the protesters for his "dented and painted women" comment for the young girls who have been protesting against the gangrape.
Meanwhile, the rape survivor has been admitted to Singapore's Mount Elizebeth Hospital. She was airlifted from New Delhi to Singapore on Wednesday night as her condition showed no signs of improvement. She had two cardiac arrests on Tuesday.
Mount Elizabeth H specialises in multi-organ transplant procedures. The government is bearing all the expenses for the 23-year-old's treatment. Her parents and a team of doctors from Safdarjung Hospital have also accompanied her.
