Delhi HC issues notice to DMRC
The DMRC is required to file its response to the notice by August 20.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a showcause notice to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on a petition alleging that it had been grossly negligent towards its construction work which led to the Zamrudpur accident.

Six people were killed and over a dozen were injured in the accident.

Justice Reva Khetrapal issued the notice and directed the DMRC to file its response by August 20 as to why a case of gross negligence should not be initiated against the corporation.

The petition also called for the setting up of an independent committee to investigate the Zamrudpur incident.

On July 24, in its earlier notice to the DMRC, the High Court had asked the corporation and its contractor Gammon India to give compensation to the accident affected people.

Family members of the six people killed in the July 12 mishap had filed a joint petition in the court seeking compensation of Rs 50 lakh for each killed and Rs 25 lakh for each injured.

Six people, including an engineer, were killed and over a dozen injured when an under-construction overbridge of the DMRC collapsed on July 12 near Nehru Place in south Delhi.
