New Delhi: Monsoon rains are continuing to wreak havoc across the country with heavy rains bringing Delhi and NCR to a standstill.
Delhi Traffic Police reported traffic jams from many parts of the city, including Mahipalpur near the Indira Gandhi International Airport and ITO junction in the heart of the capital.
Vast areas in east Delhi virtually went under water.
Two-wheeler riders took refuge under flyovers and foot-over-bridges here to escape the rains, adding to the woes of other motorists as the scooters and motorcycles blocked a portion of the roads.
Traffic snarls were also reported from Gurgaon where some roads were submerged in knee-deep water. Commuters had to bear the brunt of the situation as civic agencies did not seem to have learnt any lessons from past mistakes.
Meanwhile, a similar scene was witnessed in Kolkata where heavy rainfall has lashed the city in the last 48 hours. There is water logging in various parts of the city and train services in Howarh and Sealdah division have been affected.
At Sealdah and Kolkata stations, few local trains were delayed by 15-20 minutes during the morning hours due to water logging on the tracks, Railway officials said. Several schools in the city have also declared a holiday for Friday.
