VIJAYAWADA: Class 10 toppers in the state are facing a dilemma with the three Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) established delaying their admission notification.Last year, the under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) had issued its admission notification for the three IIITs in the second week of May and completed the admission process by the last week of June. Classes at IIIT Nuzvid, for instance, had commenced on July 22.Since the setting up of the IIITs at Basara (Adilabad), Nuzvid (Krishna) and Idupulapaya (Kadapa), the institutes have been admitting merit students from each mandal in the state. Students from government schools who topped the class 10 examinations in their respective mandals were admitted to these three top class institutions, which offer a sixyear integrated course (Inter + B.Tech). The reservations according to the state government rules were followed in the admissions. But after four years, the High Court asked the state government to abandon this admission process as several mandals were being left out of consideration during admissions. The court contended that many rural youth were not getting the benefits of the admission policy.Based on the High Court orders, officials in Hyderabad are now busy revising the admission process for this academic year.According to sources at IIIT Nuzvid, the admission notification may be further delayed by 15 days. But RGUKT has not made any formal announcement regarding the delay. It has put up a message on its website asking students to keep checking for updates regarding the notification, which may be issued soon. But in the midst of this, it is the meritorious students who are missing out on an opportunity fearing the loss of an academic year. With the increasing delay, many students have started to fear whether the notification would come at all and have begun to join junior colleges for Intermediate.K Rajiv Kumar of the B V Subba Reddy municipal school here was a topper with 571 marks out of 600 while K Durgabhavani of GDET municipal school at Patamata scored 568 marks out of 600. Though both of them hope to get a seat in IIIT Nuzvid, they are now doubtful. Durgabhavani has already joined a junior college in the city a couple of days ago while Rajiv is contemplating to follow suit.Similarly another topper Saikrishna joined a private college fearing the loss of an academic year.
