Decision on Fireworks at Karnataka's Mahalingeshwara Temple Today
District officials in Mangalore will have a meeting and the announcement to allow fireworks at Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple in Karnataka will be taken on Friday.

A day after the Kerala High Court allowed the fireworks for Thrissur Pooram festival with some restrictions, the decision to allow similar fire shows in neighbouring Karnataka's Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur will be taken on Friday.

District officials in Mangalore will have a meeting in the afternoon and the announcement in this regard will be made today. One of the important areas will be the safety and security of the devotees during fireworks – if allowed with certain limitations.

The temple administration has applied for permission with the Taluk assistant commissioner, following a review on fire safety ordered by the fire department.

They have promised to take precautionary measures - including barricades to maintain a distance between spectators and the display area - to avoid any untoward incidents.

The Puttur temple fest had drawn controversy in March when protests were seen over the inclusion of a Muslim deputy commissioner's name as one of the hosts inviting people to the fest.
