ANANTAPUR: In a tragic incident a farmer couple committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Avalampalli in on Thursday. Farmer Brahmananda Reddy (40) unable to repay loans, attempted suicide, by consuming pesticide, in early hours. The farmer’s wife Sunanda (32) who noticed that her husband had attempted suicide, with help of relatives took him to Gooty hospital where he died, undergoing treatment.The grief stricken wife, who had brought the pesticide bottle along with her to show it to doctors in the hospital, consumed the remaining poisonous substance while coming out of the hospital, without others noticing it and collapsed in hospital premises. She was obviously unable to bear death of her husband.The relatives suspecting something wrong with her took her back to the doctors, who declared her dead on arrival. It is now come to light that, Brahmananda had borrowed money from a private money lender, to grow cotton in his four acre farm land. But with crop failing for three consecutive years, he took another five acre land on lease in which he grew cotton.This was with a fond hope of getting a good crop this time around and to wipe out all his loans. But this time too lady luck failed to smile on him and crop failed due to severe drought.
