I&B Minister was admitted to AIIMS on Monday.

New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi is under close observation as his condition continues to be critical for the second consecutive day.

He has been put on life support system at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

"Dasmunsi's condition continues to be serious, but stable," Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Dr D K Sharma said.

"He is under close observation in Coronary Care Unit (CCU)," AIIMS Spokesperson Y K Gupta informed.

A multi-discipline team of doctors led by HoD of cardiology department Dr V K Behl was treating him.

"His blood pressure, pulse rate and respiration have been recovered. But he is still on ventilator," Behl said.

Dasmunsi, 62, was admitted to AIIMS on Monday with complete left ventricular failure of the heart.

Explaining his condition, Behl said, "The function of the left ventricle is to pump blood efficiently to the body. This was not happening at the time of his admission. He (Dasmunsi) was completely breathless and had lung congestion."

President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are expected to visit Munshi at AIIMS on Tuesday to inquire about his health.

AIIMS will also release a health bulletin giving updates on Dasmunshi's condition on Tuesday. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had also called up Dasmunshi on Monday.

Dasmunsi was treated for acute coronary syndrome in a private hospital in Kolkata in July and he had undergone a primary angioplasty.
