It is a heady mix of fun, music and cultural fests in the 10-day-long ‘Celebrate Keralam: Happiness Festival 2012’.
The event organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council as part of its ‘Lavanyam’ festival has everything from a music performance by French bass player Mishko M’ba to our own desi Asima, to ‘Nattu Vadyavum Paattum’, and classical music and film songs on one side. There is also photography and art exhibitions, documentary and short film fests, seminars and the list goes on.
The events which will be held at the Madhavan Nair Foundation Art and Kerala History Museum from Saturday will feature a literature fest, contemporary art exhibition, documentary, animation and music Festival and photography exhibition by eight contemporary photographers.
The evenings will see musical performances by local, national and international musical bands, folk performances and performances by traditional ritual artists. Stalwarts from the film industry including Malayalam film director Ashique Abu, music director Bijibal, actor-director Sidharth Bharathan and musician Reshmi Satish among others have joined in for the function.
The different cultural performances include the event by the band Down2earth featuring Bijibal, Mithun, Chakrapani, Ranjith, John, Mithin and Kishore which combines music, dance and theatre on the Saturday followed by classical music and film songs by K J Chakrapani.
On Monday there is ‘Nattu Vadyavum Paattum’ demonstration by Janardhana Puthussery followed by ‘Nattaka Polima’ on the same day by traditional ritual artists. On August 28, Tuesday there will be a performance by French bass musician Mishko M’ba followed by performance by Mumbai-based band Tribal Flora.
On Wednesday, musical band Asima will perform. On August 30 there will be a performance by the Celebrate Keralam band including Rex Vijayan of Avial, Johnthomas of Motherjane, singer Resmi Satish, Saju Sreenivas, music director Bijibal among others.
This will be followed by the performance of The Little Band on August 31.
Malayalanadu Literature fest will go on from August 27-28. It will include discussions on a variety of topics apart from theatre performances, poem recitals and so on. ‘Migrant Economy’, ‘Literature, Women and Migration’, ‘Malayali at Cyber Spaces’ etc are some of the topics for discussion. The speakers include K T Ram Mohan, K M Seethi, Balachandran Chullikad, and Nikesh Kumar . The documentary, animation and short film fest called Dasfest will go on from August 26 to 28.
