New Delhi/Sonepat: Following caste violence in which two persons were killed and at least 20 were injured in Gohana town, the Dalit association has called a Haryana bandh on Wednesday.

A youth of the Valmiki Samaj community was reportedly murdered on Monday night allegedly by three Jat youths.

Valmiki Samaj members on Tuesday allegedly burnt a police station this morning while protesting against Rakesh Lara’s murder, said police.

Lara was an accused in the August 2005 murder of a Jat youth Baljit Siwaich. The killing had led to violence against the Valmikis and nearly 100 houses belonging to the community were burnt.

The Haryana government handed over the probe into both the incidents to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as violence between the two communities spread to other parts of the state. Lara was later acquitted of the charges.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V B Singh told UNI police lathicharged protesters and had imposed Section 144 CrPC, which bans the assembly of more than four peeople at one place, in the town.

Singh claimed eight policemen were injured in the stoning. Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Samta Chowk in the town as the police brought Lara’s body after an autopsy in Rohtak. They blocked traffic at various points in the city and clashed with police.
