Hyderabad: A Dalit woman, in the tribal region of Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly assaulted and stripped by local TDP workers following a land dispute.

The incident happened on December 18, when an attempt was made to vacate the Dalit families from a particular land. As families resisted, it led to clashes between the groups.

The victim, D Akkamma, in her complaint has said: "I have lived with my mother for decades here. They came and started damaging our farm lands and asked us to leave. When we objected they threatened and started beating us. Even the Court order is in our favour. With the support of ruling TDP leaders, they are forcibly trying to grab our land."

The Dalit families in the village have been doing agricultural activties on land assigned to them by the government. After the incident came to light, agitated Dalit organisations protested, demanding action against the accused.

Condemning the incident, main opposition YSR Congress, too, has stepped up the attack on the ruling TDP.

Botsa Satyanarayana, YSRCP senior leader, said, "The brazen attacks on Dalits in Visakhapatnam district shows the true colours and expose anti-Dalit mask of TDP and its leadership. Our cadre is looking into their grievances and extending full support to the families."

The police have registered a case and investigation is underway.

"The issue is of land dispute. We registered case under SC/ST Act after we got the complaint. Investigations are underway," said an investigating officer.
