New Delhi: An encounter between security forces and two militants holed up in a hotel in Sopore near Srinagar has now entered its third day.
Two policemen and a CRPF trooper have been injured so far. The two militants entered the three-storey New Lite hotel after they failed to storm a security force camp.
Police say the operation is taking time because there are over 50 rooms in the hotel, which is located in a densely populated area. All the civilians who were trapped in the hotel on Friday have been rescued.
Sources said that the 22 RR, 52 RR 2nd Para, SOG Sopore and the local police had surrounded the main square area.
Firing from the militants holed up in the hotel was continuing, but it did not have the earlier intensity.
The army has torn down one wall of the hotel building with mortar shells, but had halted its advance suspecting a militant position.
