HOSUR: A herd of 15 elephants damaged agricultural crops in the village near Hosur in the wee hours of Wednesday. The elephants had strayed into Lakkasandaram village and destroyed standing crops. The villagers tried to chase the elephants by beating drums and bursting crackers. But instead of going back to the forest, the frightened elephants ran helter-skelter and damaged banana crop. Based on information from the public, Denkanikotta forest division officials visited the spot and chased the pachyderms back to the forest. The villagers have sought adequate compensation for the damaged crops.
