ANGUL: A spurt in criminal cases in Angul is giving sleepless nights to the residents. Over the last one year, cases of theft and bike-lifting have increased.As per official records, Angul town alone reported as many as 62 burglary cases, and 68 bike-lifting cases of the total 162 and 156 cases respectively reported from the entire district last year.Local Bar Association secretary Jitendra Dash blamed the cops for the situation. “Approach of police towards crime is faulty as there is lack of consistency on their part in keeping track of the criminals,” he said.Angul SP Satybrat Bhoi said police had been busting various criminal gangs. “But when they are out of jail they are back to square one. Bike-lifting cases had stopped for sometime following arrest of some criminals, but the incidents have increased again now,” he said.The SP said efforts were being made to combat the crime.
