Mumbai: Kamaljeet Rajpal, CEO of Mumbai’s Cricket Club of India, who is accused of sending obscene e-mails to a woman, is being treated for severe head injuries he suffered after shooting himself.

A spokesperson for the Bombay Hospital told reporters that Rajpal is critical and has been operated upon.

"Rajpal attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head at his residence in Cuffe Parade," Vishwas Nangre Patil, City Commissioner of Police (Zone I), told PTI.

A complaint registered with the cyber crime cell of the Mumbai Police alleges Rajpal sent obscene e-mails to a woman committee member of the club in March 2007. The woman also alleges that when she didn't give in to Rajpal advances he started a false disciplinary action against her.

Rajpal's lawyers claim the woman’s allegations are suspect, as she filed a complaint two full years after allegedly getting the e-mails and was in contact with their client after receiving them.

PTI reports a city court was to hear Rajpal’s anticipatory bail application in the case on Monday. The Mumbai Police have registered an attempt to suicide case against Rajpal.
