KOCHI: Coming down heavily on the Oommen Chandy Government for interfering in the functioning of the universities, the CPM stated that the way in which the Syndicates were being reconstituted would affect the quality of higher education adversely.CPM Ernakulam District secretary M V Govindan said the government was dissolving the syndicates through ordinances. The Kerala and Calicut university syndicates have already been dissolved and the new Syndicates are squeezed in with UDF men, he said.  Govindan alleged that there was also a move to dissolve the syndicates of Mahatma Gandhi University and the Cusat. “The government is trying to convert the administration of the universities to like that of a government department,” he said. He said the reinstating of A Ramachandran, who is facing judicial inquiry with regard to admission, as Cusat registrar was only an instance of how the government was dealing with the appointments in universities. “Moreover, the decision to hold the interview for the last grade servants in Cusat showed that the government is misusing power. The government nor the VC has any right in the appointments,” he said.
