New Delhi: Haryana Police on Friday broke into the house of suspected bookie Mukesh Kochar in Gurgaon, in the National Capital Region, to find out clues on his whereabouts.
Kochar, who is based in Dubai, is in the centre of the match-fixing controversy after Nagpur Police released a taped conversation between him and West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels.
The conversation took place during the first One Day International match between West Indies and India at Nagpur on January 21.
The Station House Officer of Sector 29 of DLF Phase I, Mohd Hussain Khan, went to Kochar's house and questioned his servant in an effort to gather clues on Kochar's whereabouts .
Khan wanted to know if Kochar had made a call to his house in Gurgaon.
The Nagpur Police have accused Samuels of passing on information regarding the batting and bowling lineups to Kochar before the ODI.
In an chat on CNN-IBN, Kochar has admitted to knowing Samuels and has gone on to describe him "like a son" to him.
Kochar, who is not in India, had said that he was just talking cricket with Samuels saying that he would return to India if the Government wanted his help.
Police sources claim that Kochar is known to handle betting accounts for Dawood's henchmen.
Apart from this, Maharashtra DGP PS Pasricha claims Kochar is very close to K K Chaddha - underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's aide - opening up a world of possibilities as far as underworld betting activities are concerned.
On his part, Chadha has conceded that he knows both Kochar and Dawood very well, but denies introducing Kochar to Dawood.
The police have also said that this development could imply the return of Dawood Ibrahim to cricket betting.
