Congress all for minority welfare

UDUPI: After Saachar Committee’s finding that the Muslim community had the highest number of poor, the UPA government started several programmes for their welfare, said Rajya Sabha member and AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes.He was addressing the leaders of the minority community at Congress Bhavan here on Sunday. “The Congress is committed to the welfare of the poor in general and minority in particular,” he said. Speaking on the occasion, former minister Naseer Ahmed urged Muslim leaders to understand the hidden agenda of the JD (S) in fielding its candidate. He added that the voters should cast their votes intelligently. He accused Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy of helping the BJP. “There is not even a single Muslim leader in the state Cabinet. So you can understand how anti-Muslim the BJP government is,” he said. Presence of newly elected Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Guljar Banu was the special attraction at the meet.
