Kolkata: The daughter of Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury was on Wednesday critically injured after she jumped off the balcony of her third floor flat in south Kolkata in a suicide attempt.
Sreyashi Chowdhury, an eleventh standard student in a South Kolkata college, was rushed to a private hospital with serious head and neck injuries after she attempted the suicide, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) P K Chatterjee said.
Her condition was stated to be critical and she slipped into coma immediately after her admission, hospital sources said.
The incident took place at about 1530 hrs IST, Chatterjee said, adding neighbours also could not throw light on why she attempted to take her life.
No suicide note was found, he said.
Shreyashi was residing at the flat on Gariahat South Road with a maid servant.
Adhir Chowdhury, Lok Sabha MP from Berhampur constituency, and his wife have rushed to Kolkata after receiving information about their daughter.
Chowdhury represents the Behrampore constituency of Murshidabad district.
He was arrested from his official residence in New Delhi Nov 19 last year in connection with the murder of Hanif Sheikh and his son Laltu who used to run a hotel business in Behrampore.
The MP, who had levelled corruption charges against late Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Anil Biswas, said he was framed in the double murder by the communists.
